Today I'm creating a pattern for a newborn whose mother wanted a one-of-a-kind sheet for her Halo Bassinest pad. Since the new baby is using the bassinet pad, her mother sent me the measurements:29” long, 18” at the widest point, and 16” at the narrowest.
First, I cut a piece of paper 30” x 19”.Next, I printed an image of the pad from the internet.
Being that my artistic talent is very limited, I have to rely on math to create patterns. I used this image to calculate a ratio to determine the measurements for the pattern. I folded my rectangle in fourths since all four corners of the mattress are the same. Then I drew the curves as I had calculated them and cut the pattern out.
(Halo pattern folded and Halo pattern full)
Last, I drew the pattern onto two 8.5” x 11” sheets. (Halo 1 and Halo 2)You can print these two sheets, tape them together, and cut out the pattern. Fold your 30” x 19” rectangle in fourths and place the taped pattern with the narrow right angle on the folded corner. Mom says it fits great!
I’ll soon have a video demonstrating how to sew the sheet.
Update for curious souls!
I’ve finished the first of what I hope will be matching smocked dresses for three sisters, and I completed another block for my yo-yo quilt.
In the next couple of weeks, I’ll be creating an angel costume for an angelic young girl, and then I’m committed to starting the Christmas gifts I mentioned in a previous blog.
Have a sewing week! 🧵✨
